Biogas Calculations?

Post by BenConc » Sat Feb 28, 2009 5:59 am

Hi all, I'm an engineering student from Ireland. I found this website and wanted to say that it's great! The forum especially is a great tool. I was hoping to bounce a few queries off anyone out there who might be able to help? As part of a final year undergraduate project I have been asked to complete a study into the feasibility of introducing an Industrial anaerobic digester to a food manufacturing site. Does anyone know any generic calculations which can be used to obtain the necessary size of the digester, the biogas volumes produced, etc? I have the data from the site regarding the volumes of waste produced, but no bio-chemical analysis (i.e. Volatile Solids content).

I had a look at the Calculator on this site, and it's great, but I don't think it's suited to my situtation. The feedstock to the site's digester would not be manure, but pork meat and fat waste. The volumes would be quite substantial, approx. 5 ton/day before being diluted to 13% solids content.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Slán agus go raibh maith aga, (goodbye and thank you),
