village fuel

hi there. I hope that this forum gets checked fairly often, for my ssake. I am writing in reguard to a methane digestor that i saw in costa rica. The digestor was basically a toilet connected to a septic tank (4'x6') . The septic tank had a sludge collecting duct in the bottom and was covered with a black plastic dome to catch the methane. As the methane was generated from about 10 peoples waste it was piped into the kitchen where we had a burner to flip on and ignight. the system was wonderful.

i am thinking that a similar system could be built inexpensivly in developing nations. This could then cut the amount of firewood people would have to collect and burn in order to cook their foods.

are there any organizations doing this work?

are there any design skemes that I could view like the one I described?

can we have an ongoing dialogue about this>>

Hi Ryan,

That sounds very interesting. I had not heard of this kind of system. Sounds very simple & appropriate to rural villages.

Do you have any contact information for the place you saw that in Costa Rica?
