Re: Thanks for this site

I still think it is worth pursuing too... but life intervenes. It seems to be working through the system anyway - Sciam had an article (cover too) a while back on "grassoline" It'll take another ten years before we see the full process, and I probably should have pushed myself to test it but... Anyw...

Re: Thanks for this site

Too quiet around here lately. I know how busy I am, and I've heard rumours about Bob's schedule, but I have trouble believing no one else is doing anything interesting in the world of anaerobic digestors, composting toilets, sustainable living... you know, all that fun stuff around saving the world....

Re: Drum Biofilter

Good to see some posting here! There is a project from the University of Alberta using clay pots with organic temper materials that are burnt off to make a filter capable of straining microbes and other contaminants from water....very little info on the actual website, but there is more kicking arou...

Re: saving the world and other fun stuff...

There is a lot of new information available. Found this tonight:
http://www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/$Department ... agdex11397

So it seems to me that the AD process is gaining traction.
here's hoping.

Re: saving the world and other fun stuff...

http://engrwww.usask.ca/oldsite/societies/csae/protectedpapers/c0556.pdf has a summary of the straw from cereal grains available in the Prairie Provinces. After deducting 1t/ha for preventing wind/water erosion, and the amounts necessary for livestock feed and bedding the three prairie provinces pro...

Re: saving the world and other fun stuff...

Yup, I can still get to the private forums. You fixed that for me just before you went south.

I'm not giving it a lot of time, but hope to be able to steal an hour or so a day for reading etc. Dishes, laundry and house cleaning all provide lots of time for the digestion/planning/headgames.

Re: saving the world and other fun stuff...

My world is well. I am living off the largess of the government (well... I've paid for it already, but still, it seems nice) My wife and daughter are both doing well. (Natalie has a cold, but we live in the north and she is an elementary school principal - it comes with the paycheck). Brainstorms ju...

Re: saving the world and other fun stuff...

Just went through the original post, and most of the links are broken. Going to take some time soon to rework them all...

worried especially about the McLeod Harvester, as it was a fairly small company, and its website is now showing up as a malware thing or something. Not good.

Re: Can I use straw as a raw material input?

ha! Finally finding time to read that article on straw digestibility and treatments to increase it. Love that some of the data is from 1919. This is some good stuff Bob, thanks for the link! I am currently unemployed, so I think I will spend some time this winter surfing & write up a version of my i...

I was just speculating at the 1 truck a day. Maybe you don't need that much, maybe you need more... Ideally, from my point of view what we should all be working on is lobbying municipal governments to make full use of the sewer waste passing through their systems. If every town used anaerobic digest...

Depending on the systems you use. It is certainly possible to use a batch process, but with cow manure the retention time is relatively low, so that would lead to a lot of handeling...open digestter, empty digester, refill digester, close digester, wait four days and repeat... If you can predict a r...

Unfortunately the site was hacked. Bob lost all the data back to his last backup. Which meant quite a number of posts, including our discussion of your project. I am glad to see you found your way back though. Did they explain In what ways was the polyethylene plant not suited for Malaysia? That mig...

Jacquay, Posting this mostly just so it pings for Bob. He's had some problems with the site lately and I'm not sure how often he's letting it pull him away from paying work... If I recall correctly the calculator is based on numbers from a book he has... he's mentioned it before in this forum, but i...

Idle speculation I suppose, but we measure the thickness of ice around here in feet, and drive trucks on it... but a fairly small aeration unit will keep the water from freezing in the dugouts... at least where the bubbles surface. I would suspect that if you are only dealing with a couple of inches...

Well, I emailed Shadow to see how it went, but it bounced.

Now I'm disappointed.

I also thought it had been too long since anytyhing was posted here, so I'd better drop everyone a line and see if some conversation started up again...
